Dear Friends and Neighbors Your support is needed.
The Branchport Keuka Park Volunteer Fire Department is now beginning its Annual Fund Drive. Your support plays a vital role in the ongoing effort of our Firefighters, Medical Responders, and SCUBA Dive Team to provide the fast, reliable services upon which you depend.
In 2015 the members of the department responded to 212 calls for assistance. That averages 4 calls per week! Members participated in over 1850 hrs. of county training and 1000 hrs. of in-house training. This year we were fortunate to welcome 7 new members into the department.
We work hard to maintain your support and trust. Even though allocations from property taxes cover a good percentage of our expenses, there are still needs that go unfunded. Our board of fire commissioners are diligent to use their budget in the most effective way to maintain our facilities, apparatus and protective gear. Some of the improvements that have been made recently are new energy efficient truck bay doors and inside lighting at the Branchport Station, windows at the Keuka Park Station and outside lighting at both stations. The inside of the truck bays and bathrooms in Branchport were painted and security camera systems were installed. Expenses coming up in the near future will be a badly needed paint job to the outside of the Branchport Station and refurbishing of the truck bay floors, replacement of one fire truck at the Keuka Park Station and mandated replacement of our SCBA air breathing packs that have reached the end of their service life. Government mandates and the complexity of our equipment makes this all very expensive work and tax money sometimes only covers the bare essentials. That is why we rely so much on this fund drive appeal to supplement our needs.
This year we were able to use fund drive money to purchase a set of Res-Q-Jacks. This is a cutting edge support strut system carried on our rescue truck that will be used at motor vehicle accidents to stabilize vehicles so that people can be removed safely. Your support also allows us to continue our tradition of community outreach with events like our 4th of July fireworks display and Kids Halloween party. With donated funds we recently installed an audio visual system at the Branchport Station with computer and internet connection for use in training sessions so that we can access the new wealth of information available online for the emergency services.
One unique aspect of our departments operations is the use of equipment trailers. We currently have trailers for our SCUBA dive team, cascade air system for refilling air bottles at major fires, four wheeler and brush fire tools support, and a utility trailer with pumps, hose and generators used for flooding and cellar pumping. Using trailers is a cost effective way to move certain equipment around rather than investing in additional, expensive fire trucks. We currently move all of these trailers around with our brush fire truck which is not ideal and ties up that piece of equipment if there was a fire or if another equipment trailer might be needed for a call. We hope to begin setting aside some of our donated money into a fund to be able to purchase a basic pick up truck to pull our trailers, and lend equipment support at fire calls and training sessions. We have realized this need for a few years now and with your help we can work towards getting this much needed piece of equipment.
Please send your tax-deductible contribution today. Your support is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, The members of the Branchport / Keuka Park Fire Department
