Dear Friends and Neighbors Your support is needed in 2018.
The Branchport Keuka Park Volunteer Fire Department is now beginning its Annual Fund Drive. Your support plays a vital role in the ongoing effort of our Firefighters, Emergency Medical Responders, and SCUBA Dive Team to provide the fast, reliable services upon which you depend. In 2016 the members of the BKPFD responded to 192 calls for assistance. That averages to almost 4 calls per week! Members participated in 772 hrs of county training and 1344 hrs of in-house training. This year we were fortunate to welcome 4 new members into the department. We work hard to maintain your trust that we will be there for you in times of need and we depend on your generosity to help us stay prepared. While allocations from taxes cover a percentage of our expenses, we still must rely on donations to our Fund Drive in order to keep up with the demands of operating a modern, emergency services organization. One of the big issues that has confronted the fire service in recent years is the increasing cases of firefighter cancer. The types of materials that burn in the average fire are now much more toxic than in generations past. The importance of the proper protective gear, and keeping that gear clean between calls has become a major priority. This year, we have installed a new, state of the art washer and dryer for our gear to help protect us from the toxins released in modern fires. Another new innovation we are working on to keep our firefighters safe is a “bail out” system. These systems will be purchased for each firefighter that goes into a structure and consists basically of a large hook, rope and lowering device so a firefighter that becomes trapped in a fire can “bail out” of a window and make it safely to the ground. Our firefighters volunteer their time to train for this important work and your financial support is an essential part of keeping them safe. We continue to enjoy doing our part as active members of the community with our 4th of July celebration, Halloween party, Thanksgiving Turkey Party, and fire safety programs. Our Auxiliary has renewed the tradition of weekend breakfasts at the firehouse so I hope you will have a chance to come out this Winter and see us. Along with your financial support, there is another thing that you can do to support our efforts. Making sure that you have a large, easily readable house number on your mailbox and on your house greatly assists us when we are looking for you or one of your neighbors in need.
Your support is greatly appreciated. Please send your tax-deductible contribution today.
Sincerely, The members of the Branchport / Keuka Park Fire Department
